PACK 1081

FAMILY CAMP-OUT

May 4th -6th,  2012

Greenbrier State Park

Greenbrier is a multi-use park providing many kinds of recreation.

The Appalachian Trail passes through the park. The 42-acre

man-made lake and beach draw many visitors who enjoy

swimming, canoeing, hiking, picnicking, fishing and hunting.

As with most of Maryland's State Parks, a park map is available

at the park office.

Located in the Appalachian Mountains, this state park offers many

recreational opportunities. The man-made freshwater lake offers

swimming, sunbathing, boating and fishing opportunities. There are

also hiking trails which meander through a variety of wildlife habitats

and afford a view of the area's geological history.

DIRECTIONS

From the East: Take I-70 west to exit 42. Bear right onto Rt. 17

north (follow signs). Go into the center of Myersville and Rt. 17

will turn right. Follow Rt. 17 to the flashing lights at the

intersection of Rt. 40. Turn left onto Rt. 40 west. Follow for three

miles and the park is on the left.

Gear: Bring everything you need to go camping; i.e. food, charcoal, gas grills, tents, tarps, sleeping bags, water container, lanterns, toiletries, paper towels, lighter fluid, coolers, ice, etc.  Note: There is a fire ring.  Gas, charcoal or small wood fires for cooking are OK in above ground containers designed for such.  NO campfires in other than pre-designated fire ring(s).

The pack has a limited number of tents & cook stoves available.  Make arrangements with Cubmasters-Elect Leora Hernandez 301-933-0460 or Rachel Hackenberg 301-625-1756

in advance, if you need to borrow one of these items.

There are restroom facilities available in this group camping area.  Drinking water to fill jugs is available.  Please take all trash to a proper receptacle, particularly upon departure.  No alcohol is permitted.

For food, bring things simple to prepare.  Use disposable utensils when possible to avoid extensive clean-up.  Figure on two lunches, two dinners and two breakfasts.  Anything additional is fine.  The pack will provide a campfire cracker barrel (crackers & cheese and / or marshmallows, etc.).

Belt Loop Activities:  View requirements here

At the May 17, 2012 Pack Meeting, the Tigers, Wolves, Bears, and 1st Year Webelos will “graduate” across the bridge to the next rank group.  At that time, they are given the appropriate accessories and book that change with their bridging over.  The form for ordering the accessories you will

need for next year are here.
